Programme Overview

The PhD programme at IILM University is a rigorous and comprehensive initiative, offering a world-class academic experience through national and international pedagogies, distinguished faculty, and experienced research guides. The primary objectives of the programme are to advance knowledge in frontier areas and provide exceptional research training. The academic structure of the PhD degree is broad-based, encompassing a course credit requirement and a research project culminating in the submission of a thesis.

Academic Qualifications:
Candidates must meet one of the following criteria:

Master’s Degree Holders:

  • Completion of a 1-year/2-semester Master’s degree programme following a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor’s degree programme, or a 2-year/4-semester Master’s degree programme following a 3-year Bachelor’s degree programme.
  • A minimum of 55% marks in aggregate or an equivalent grade on a point scale.
  • Equivalent qualifications from foreign institutions must be accredited by recognised assessment and accreditation agencies.

Bachelor’s Degree with Research:

  • Completion of a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor’s degree programme with at least 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale.

M.Phil. Candidates:

  • Completion of an M.Phil. programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or an equivalent grade on a point scale.
  • Equivalent qualifications from foreign institutions must also meet accreditation requirements.

Relaxation:
A 5% relaxation in marks or equivalent grade is available for candidates from SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer), Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS), and other reserved categories, as per the Commission's guidelines.

Final Year Candidates:

  • Candidates in the final year of their Master’s or Bachelor’s programme may apply provisionally.

Additional Notes:

  • Preference will be given to candidates holding a UGC Junior Research Fellowship (JRF).
  • Candidates are encouraged to seek funding for their research from industry or other agencies with university approval.

Application Process

  • Candidates must fill out the application form available on the IILM University website.
  • Applicants are required to submit a Statement of Purpose (SOP) and a Research Proposal (RP), following the university’s prescribed template.
  • The quality of the SOP and RP will be evaluated, and shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview with a panel of area experts.
  • Final selection will be based on the panel’s feedback and recommendations, categorising candidates appropriately.

Selection Criteria and Weightage

The selection process will adhere to the following weightage distribution:

PhD Admission Exam Score (50%)

  • A valid score in a recognised PhD admission exam conducted by a central testing agency (e.g., CUET, UGC-NET, CSIR-UGC-NET, IIT-JAM, JNUEE, IISC PhD, JRF-GATE) will account for 50% of the total evaluation.
  • Scores from the last 12 months will be accepted.

Statement of Purpose (SOP) and Research Proposal Presentation (30%)

  • The candidate’s presentation of their SOP and RP will be assessed for originality, clarity, and alignment with the research objectives.

Panel Interview Feedback (20%)

  • The interview will evaluate the candidate’s subject knowledge, research aptitude, and overall suitability for the programme.

Programme Details

  • Programme Fee: ₹50,000 per semester
  • Fellowship: ₹35,000 per month
